In Bellary, Karnataka, a tea vendor is using free internet data as a tool to increase his customer base.

Yes, you read it right! Saeed Basha (23) is offering his customers 30 minutes of free data with a cup of tea which costs them just Rs. 5.

The investment made by Saeed is Rs. 3,000 which includes expenditure on router and other accessories. He has purchased unlimited data pack from the local cable operator at the monthly tariff of Rs. 1700.

The speed that Saeed is offering at his shop is 1-2 mbps and his main motive behind offering free internet is to increase his customer base as well as help the students who don’t have enough resources to purchase internet pack.

This scheme was started in September and the response was overwhelming! Before its implementation, Saeed used to sell 100 cups a day but now, he sells more than 400 cups a day.

When a customer buys a cup of tea, he is also given a coupon on which the password is written. As the customer enters the password, he starts using internet and after 30 minutes, internet is disconnected on its own. What’s more, a user can login only once a day.

Customers of Saeed are also happy with his revolutionary idea, as now they can access their mails, social media and data sharing on the tea shop. In addition, it’s very difficult to find a cyber café in such a small town and in this situation, this idea has become life changing for his customers!!
